Provided design and documentation services for a new 23,734 SF, 48-bed, three-story residence hall student housing project, constructed on the Grand Rapids campus of Aquinas College. The building was designed to be compatible architecturally with three existing adjacent student housing buildings of a smaller scale. The building consists of 12 four-bedroom, two-bath apartments across three stories, with limited common areas including laundry, circulation, and meeting rooms. The main design challenge for this project was to create a new style of living that would appeal to students beyond the freshman year. Additionally, the design solution had to be compatible with existing adjacent housing on the site. Both challenges were met successfully. This project was delivered via competitive bid and was completed on time in the fall of 2008.

Objective

Create a new apartment style student housing complex that conforms to the style of architecture in adjacent housing.

Outcome

A new, up to date, student housing building that incorporates two and four bedroom apartments with individual kitchens and exterior architecture that blends well with adjacent housing.
