Contracted by Byron Township to lead the newly established Downtown Development Authority in a design process that would ultimately create a development plan for their village center. The process began with a participatory design session, open to all of the stakeholders and interested citizens. The goal of this visioning session was to ascertain the positives, negatives, and the desired development direction of the “Village of Byron Center.” The ultimate design, which was presented to the community at large, included plans for an improved streetscape, upgraded parking areas, greenspace connections, additional on-street parking, and building façade designs.

Objective

Traffic mitigation and streetscape design to create a safer, more aesthetically pleasing environment for pedestrians visiting the Village Center.

Outcome

Slower traffic, improved parking, lighting and landscaping has attracted new businesses to Byron Center.
