Canadian Lakes is a private community that encompasses many waterbodies that offer plenty of recreational opportunities. Most of the Canadian Lakes are manmade, exhibiting expanses of shallow water with moderate to dense plant growth. These areas are of primary concern as invasive species have the potential to take over a large portion of the lakes. Through the selective use of herbicides and mechanical harvesting, invasive species are being held at bay, allowing the beneficial native plants to thrive to provide excellent fish habitat. Lake management activities and other helpful resources are published by Progressive AE on www.canadianlakesmgmt.org.

Objective

To control the spread of invasive exotic plants and to establish a baseline from which to gauge long-term changes in water quality.

Outcome

Utilizing both mechanical harvesting and select aquatic herbicide treatments allow CLPOC members to enjoy the Canadian Lakes in a variety of recreational opportunities.
