Diamond Lake is a large, deep lake with good water quality, a healthy fishery, and sparse aquatic plant growth. However, like many lakes throughout the state, exotic plant species were detected in the lake. The Diamond Lake Association took quick action to address the problem. The Association retained Progressive AE to assist with the implementation of an aquatic plant control program and disseminated information to educate lake residents about steps they could take to protect the lake. The Association worked with the townships surrounding the lake to establish a special assessment district to ensure long- term financing of plant control efforts.

Objective

To selectively control invasive, exotic species and protect lake water quality over the long term.

Outcome

A multi-year monitoring and plant control program was put in place that has prevented exotic species from spreading in the lake. Lake residents were provided hands-on guidance on how best to preserve the quality of the lake.
