Holland Hospital Medical Building

Holland Hospital

Zeeland, MI

33,000 square feet

The design intent for the new Holland Hospital Medical Office Building was to create an environment that reflected the values and mission of Holland Hospital while fully integrating into the Zeeland landscape. At the same time, there needed to be a welcoming, relaxed, unified experience for the Family Practice, Urgent Care, and Lab programs. The site design seeks to create a more sustainable landscape by designing a bioswale storm water filtration and pond storm water retention strategy. Indigenous plant materials were used in an effort to reduce the need for irrigation. The exterior brick and stone aesthetic create a link to the Main Hospital campus recognizing the Holland Hospital brand. A large glass lobby allows abundant natural light into the space, creating a more open and welcoming environment. A central concierge greets individuals and directs consumers to the proper registration/waiting area. The glass registration area allows individuals to see into the offices assisting with flow and operations of the registration process. The exam room pods float within the structural environment to create greater penetration of natural light into the interior. All exam rooms have a window connecting them to natural light in an effort to create a more calming experience. The interior materials reinforce the outside environment through the use of wood, translucent paneling with natural patterns, glass, and warm paint colors. The building houses family practice, urgent care, lab, and x-ray facilities on the first floor with specialty care and shell space for future expansion on the second floor.

Expand their geographical reach by providing access to quality medical care in new area while maintaining their brand; make an off-site facility feel like an extension of main campus.

The new modern facility is visible, easily accessible, has clear internal way-finding, and reflects Holland Hospital's brand attributes.
