Hired by the City of Holland to provide architectural design and streetscape/site improvements to support the Neighborhood Commercial Improvement Program, which encourages rejuvenation of neighborhood commercial districts through design. A total of 11 districts have been identified as part of this program. We worked closely with the City of Holland, as well as building and business owners to create an “area design” that focused on the revitalization of the neighborhood commercial core, being sensitive to the unique nature of each area. For each district, we provided architectural concepts for historic façade recovery, streetscape improvements, circulation studies, and district branding.

Objective

Create a unique presence for each neighborhood through architectural and site design. Financial participation from City allowed business owners the opportunity to make improvements.

Outcome

Improved traffic and pedestrian walk-ability in each neighborhood. Upgraded building facades, landscape and parking have attracted new businesses to several neighborhoods.
