2019The brand new Jack and Mary De Witt Center for Science and Technology is located at the center of Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, MI. The center focuses on a variety of disciplines including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The building features seven state-of-the-art laboratories, small group engagement areas, an outdoor classroom, and a rain garden. Faculty offices are located throughout the building to help create easier connections between students and professors. Ecology and the environment are incorporated as a learning tool throughout the facility and the outdoor classroom provides a more natural setting for learning. Water runoff is diverted to a series of rain gardens that flow to the University’s central lake. Water and abundant natural light are essential components to learning about science, but also reflect important spiritual teachings of the school. Cornerstone challenged the design team to create a state-of-the-art STEM environment that shows a strong connection between science and faith, and between student and teacher.
