Manistee Lake is a large, shallow lake with an exceptional fishery. In response to an invasion of Eurasian milfoil in the lake, the Manistee Lake Association requested that the neighboring townships establish a legal lake board. In 2005, the Manistee Lake Improvement Board was established and initiated a multiple-year lake improvement plan. The plan has included the biological control of Eurasian milfoil, ongoing water quality monitoring, information dissemination, and fishery improvements. Progressive AE worked closely with the lake board and lake association to successfully coordinate and implement the plan.

Objective

To control the spread of exotic plant species and to enhance the lake fishery.

Outcome

Exotic plants have been controlled in the lake and recent surveys indicate the overall health of the fishery has improved significantly since the implementation of the plan.
