Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital engaged Progressive AE to assist in this expansion and renovation project. The final design included a 15,700-square-foot addition to the existing surgery suite. The expansion included 19 universal prep/recovery rooms, 6-bed PACU, locker rooms, storage, offices, a minor procedure room, and a new operating room. Significant infrastructure upgrades were required as part of this project including a new generator with electrical infrastructure.

The Emergency Department expansion and renovation replaced the existing Emergency Department and became the new entrance and waiting area for the hospital. It includes one triage station, two rapid assessment rooms, two trauma rooms, 10 treatment rooms, an isolation room, and a psyche room. Infrastructure work, including reworking the electrical infrastructure and emergency power, was implemented to help accommodate the addition.

Objective

Better meet the needs of the area consumers, many of whom are elderly, by enhancing way-finding. This needs to occur both internally so patients and visitors can more easily find the appropriate space, and externally by making the entry clear and welcoming.

Outcome

The Emergency Room and entry were renovated so a new entry is more clearly the "front door" to the complex, enhancing visitors' and patients' experience.
