As part of the master plan for Mercy Health Partners completed by Progressive AE and HOK, OB/GYN services were indicated as one of the critical items to be consolidated from two campuses down to one. The project consolidated the existing Labor and Delivery Units from Mercy General and the Hackley campus into the Mercy Health Hackley campus. The design for the second floor unit included adding a C-Section OR and more Labor Rooms. Renovations also included physician sleep rooms, locker rooms, clean holding room, general storage, staff break/lounge, triage space, nurse station, family waiting, and administrative space. This renovation also included re-purposing space to accommodate administrative spaces, education rooms, OB service areas, general storage and other spaces to serve the Labor and Delivery Unit. The fifth floor was also re-purposed as a Postpartum Unit with new nurseries with supporting spaces, nurse station, nourishment rooms, and administrative space.

Objective

Consolidate OB services from the Muskegon General Campus to the Hackley Campus with complex phasing in order to keep the Labor and Delivery Unit operational during the renovation.

Outcome

The combined Birth Center will handle nearly 2,500 deliveries a year with a staff of 100 in a facility with cutting edge obstetric services.
