Sonrise United Methodist Church lacked sufficient hospitality, youth ministry, and meeting space. The existing building also had very little visibility from the busy suburban street corner. This 7,000 sf addition consists of a sunlit coffee shop/café and fireplace lounge flanked by a multi-purpose gathering space and a youth ministry center. All three spaces are separated by large overhead glass garage doors so they can by fully open to one another or closed for separate functions.

Objective

To develop a phased master plan incorporating a new worship space, cafe, nursery, children’s area, youth center, gymnasium, and administration spaces.

Outcome

Takes advantage of frontage on busy suburban corridor and beautifies existing storm water retention area. Shared parking with adjacent elementary school to the south.
