2011This is a three-year, $98 million expansion. It centered on the addition of a 120,000-square-foot, 4-story building that contains 140 patient beds and eight operating rooms. All hospital rooms are private with the overall number being reduced from 297 to 284. The building also has a 6,800-square-foot internal garden in a courtyard between the two wings of the new building.
Objective
Design a modern healthcare facility within an established residential area and deliver the project within an extremely aggressive time frame; expand OR volume and recruit physicians.
Outcome
The new space has entirely private patient rooms, improved patient flow, and increased convenience for both patients and surgeons.
The hospital is also positioned to be able to expand programs, has the potential to increase surgical volumes through higher referrals to Blodgett by surgeons.
The architectural expression received positive community response.
